--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 640\/360;\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74114\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Image courtesy NYC Media Lab.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Story telling is increasingly blurring the line between the physical and virtual worlds, according to presenters at the just-concluded this year\u2019s &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/technology-storytelling-engaging-the-immersive-future-tickets-141853966031\">Technology + Storytelling: Engaging The Immersive Future<\/a>&nbsp;event organized by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycmedialab.org\/\">NYC Media Lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re already seeing this happen on the production sites in series like Disney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/disneyplusoriginals.disney.com\/show\/the-mandalorian\">The Mandalorian<\/a>, as you can see in the video below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"The Virtual Production of The Mandalorian, Season One\" width=\"1380\" height=\"776\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gUnxzVOs3rk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 150\/150;\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74116\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Connie Kennedy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u201cOne of the tricks is to blend that physical set with the virtual environment so that you can see it is a seamless transition,\u201d she said. \u201cA<\/span>ny of the terrain, the dirt, the set pieces with the rock, all of that needs to be constructed during the early stages of the preparation for the film so that everything is seamless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The process also brings special effects, normally done in post-production, right into the heart of the filming process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people who have been working traditionally in the post-production were separated from the collaborative process in the sense that their work was after the movie was shot and the people that were doing the pre-phase, those people were also separated and distinctive,\u201d she said. \u201cNow, everyone is working together in real-time and what that means is that the prep that we were doing in advance of the production is crucial.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Evolution of the avatar will influence immersion<\/h3>\n<p>Additionally, the evolution of the use of avatars in virtual reality, augmented reality, and gaming platforms \u2014 from static avatars to lifelike virtual humans \u2014 will also be a game-changer for storytelling by making it feel more immersive, said Steve Rosenbaum, executive director at NYC Media Lab.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74117\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74117\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/techclot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/YeDgG9.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-74117 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/techclot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/YeDgG9.png?resize=150%2C150&#038;ssl=1\" alt width=\"150\" height=\"150\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/techclot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/YeDgG9.png 150w, https:\/\/www.hypergridbusiness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Steve-Rosenbaum-80x80.png 80w, https:\/\/techclot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/YeDgG9.png 200w\" data-sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 150px; No longer are they making entertainment or diversion \u2014 they\u2019re going to be able to have a profound impact on how and where people live in the digital world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One example of this is the new Epic Games\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unrealengine.com\/en-US\/digital-humans\">MetaHuman platform<\/a> which uses scanning to create photo-life-like avatars for game characters or for users participating in virtual training, events, or games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will probably, in the next year or so, see phenomenal new changes with this facial capture and body capture technologies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The technology is getting good enough to get us to the other side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellmind.com\/what-is-the-uncanny-valley-4846247\">uncanny valley<\/a>, he added.
