Beeple’s “Everydays – The First 5000 Days” will be auctioned online by Christie’s from Feb. 25 through March 11.<\/h4>\n

\u201cEverydays \u2013 The First 5000 Days,\u201d a monumental work by the digital artist known as Beeple that offers a daily chronicle of his life from May 1, 2007, through Jan. 7, 2021, will be auctioned online from Feb. 25 through March 11 in a solo sale by Christie\u2019s.<\/p>\n

According to Christie\u2019s, it\u2019s the first time a purely digital, non-fungible token-based artwork\u2014 one that has a unique digital token encrypted with the artist\u2019s signature that is identifiable on the blockchain, thereby verifying authenticity\u2014has been offered for sale by a major auction house.<\/p>\n

Although bidding opens at $100 on the work whose estimate is listed as \u201cunknown,\u201d Beeple\u2019s \u201cThe Complete MF Collection,\u201d comprised of 20 pieces, sold in December for $3.5 million on a blockchain-based platform, according to Christie\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cChristie\u2019s has never offered a new-media artwork of this scale or importance before,\u201d

\n Christie\u2019s post-war and contemporary art specialist in New York, said in a statement. \u201cAcquiring Beeple\u2019s work is a unique opportunity to own an entry in the blockchain itself created by one of the world\u2019s leading digital artists.\u201d<\/p>\n

Calling Beeple a \u201cbrash pioneer among digital artists,\u201d
\n Mr. Davis
\n said \u201cwe see this as a pivotal moment for the future of new media and even the practice of collecting itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 21,069-by-21,026 jpg. pixel work is 319,168,313 bytes. Comprised of 5,000 individual images created over the course of the 5,000 days referenced in its title, the work \u201cgives viewers the opportunity to zoom in and witness Beeple\u2019s often irreverent but always engaging evolution as an artist pixel by pixel,\u201d Mr. Davis said. \u201cThe capacity to represent 13 years of an artist\u2019s career in a single work perfectly illustrates the limitless nature of this medium.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 5,000 images in Beeple\u2019s kaleidoscopic collage range from the personal and whimsical to the potently political. The premier image, created on May 1, 2007, is a simple picture of his Uncle
\n Jim,
\n whom he also calls
\n Uber Jay.\n <\/p>\n

Other images include the drawing of a wirework robo baby Beeple quickly created at 5 a.m. on Sept. 18, 2013, right before he drove his wife to the hospital for the birth of their first child; a graphic \u201cKill Me\u201d illustration of his food poisoning on Nov. 27, 2014; and then-Vice President Mike
\n Pence
\n as lord of the flies after the Oct. 20, 2020, debate with
\n Kamala Harris,
\n during which a fly landed on Pence\u2019s head, inspiring memes posted across social media platforms. <\/p>\n

The final image in \u201cEverydays \u2013 The First 5000 Days\u201d is of a tow-haired child drawing, surrounded by Beeple\u2019s many muses, which range from
\n Trump
\n to Mickey Mouse.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a reference back to my first everyday drawing,\u201d he said in a statement. \u201cIt honestly is still truly mind-boggling to me what this project has become.\u201d<\/p>\n

Summing up his 5,000 days of creation, Beeple said in a statement that \u201cI almost look at it now like I\u2019m a political cartoonist. Except instead of doing sketches, I\u2019m using the most advanced 3-D tools to make comments on current events, almost in real time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beeple, aka
\n Mike Winkelmann,
\n one of the originators of the \u201ceveryday\u201d genre in 3-D graphics, is a graphic designer based in Charleston, South Carolina who has 1.8 million Instagram followers.<\/p>\n

He creates a variety of digital art, short films, Creative Commons VJ loops, and virtual reality\/augmented reality work and has created concert visuals for a number of performers, including
\n Justin Bieber,
\n One Direction,
\n Katy Perry,
\n and
\n Nicki Minaj,
\n according to his website.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also collaborated with several global brands, including Apple, Nike, SpaceX, and Samsung, according to Christie\u2019s.
\n Mr. Winkelmann,
\n who is 39, offers a humble assessment of Beeple\u2019s work on the artist\u2019s official website: \u201cHe makes a variety of art crap across a variety of media. Some of it is OK, but a lot of it kind of blows ass. He\u2019s working on making it suck less everyday though so bear with him… :).\u201d<\/p>\n

Beeple will deliver the signed \u201cEverydays \u2013 The First 5000 Days,\u201d which includes a non-fungible token issued by the digital marketplace MakersPlace, directly to the buyer.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
